Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen

I grew up watching The Transformers.  I’m a fan of the series and I loved the 1986 and the 2007 movies as well.  So I watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with much anticipation.

First half hour or so was ok, it was still living up to the charm of its predecessors.  You can notice a few plot issues here and there, but since this is a movie based on a 80s kiddie cartoon series; you can manage to be a bit more forgiving.  Besides seeing your 2D cartoon heroes come to life in 3D was indeed eye candy.

And yes, there are awesome fight sequences.  When I saw the scene of a dual-sword-wielding Optimus Prime outnumbered but putting up a fight, it just made me want to jump into the screen and join the carnage!

But then you also begin to realize that compared to the 1st movie, this time they try way bit too hard to be funny. The first movie had witty moments, and only had subtle sexual innuendos.  This time around it was two and a half hours of cheesy writing and subpar acting that it was just tiring.

There were also just too many scenes that should have been edited out; I specially couldn’t believe that there’s a scene of Sam’s mom - high on drugs, running like crazy around the campus.  WTF!

If only they could have given a little bit more thought on the script…

I reckon it was trying to be everything all at once that it transformed into one big schizophrenic mess.

Although all in all it wasn’t really that bad; it was just a big disappointment for me because it ruined a potentially good sequel.

I’m still a fan of The Transformers though and I hope they redeem themselves come part 3
