The Day The Earth Stood Still

For once, Keanu Reeves’ deadpan expression was put into good use as the alien Klaatu – arriving on earth in a glowing orb.
When I first heard of this movie, I was expecting something a little bit more shocking – like War of the Worlds. But it didn’t even come close.
The premise for the story is great. The earth is well worth saving. And humankind is seriously becoming a big threat to the Earth’s survival.
However, there was something lacking somehow. It didn’t make you empathize with any of the characters.
If it were a movie that was made to convince people to change their ways, then watching the GORT’s nanites eat up everything in its path – did the trick. I think that was the only part of the movie that got me glued, everything else just faded to nothingness.
It’s still a good movie to watch, though. Just don’t expect too much from it.
